VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
Before VAR some thought it was more than strange big teams getting the calls, I remember Redknapp getting fined for saying you don’t get penalties at Old Trafford.
Is it corrupt or are officials just scared of getting the calls wrong against the top 3-4-6?

People talk about it like it's an objective AI of some kind but VAR is still just another ref.

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
It might well just be another ref, but its another ref with the benefit of watching numerous replays. I don’t want to be all woe is me on this, but for that penalty not to be given stinks. I always ask myself, would that have been given up the other end, and likewise, would the disallowed goal have been given up the other end, and in both cases I genuinely believe the answer is yes. It is a tool being used to protect the elite rather than level the playing field.

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
VAR was introduced to rectify mistakes made by match officials on the pitch. The system clearly isnt working and the questionn is why isnt it? We all see the same footage, have the ability to replay it as many times as is needed and should be capable of achieving 100% accuracy. I said on the match thread that i have always shied away from the view that favouritism is shown towards the 'big' clubs but after yesterday I am now finally convinced that these 'mistakes' are about far more than incompetance.

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
Its not the system but as said its the incompetent refs.
Have said for a long time that referees should referee and the VAR panel should be a different group .... retired refs and former players
At the moment the refs look out for each other as they know next week it could be them on the pitch with the other bloke in the VAR bunker.
For the referee AND the VAR bloke not to think Lindelof thrusting his arm at the ball ISN'T a pen is beyond belief.
And we know that if that was our defender at Old Trafford the decision would have been different.

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
I was all.for VAR as we got shafted time after time on refereeing decisions. 15/16 we would have been up.with Leicester if it weren't for refs screwing us over. We had 4 reds rescinded. 3 in 3 games if I remember correctly.

This was supposed to end all.that, but no. We get screwed over time and again.

The big teams still get it all their way. The hand balls against bin dippers and yesterday v man u were outrageous. The "foul" on de gea didn't exist.

Nobody can convince me it isn't corrupt.

I must admit I was one with big hopes for VAR to counteract the bias but have to admit I was wrong.
The errors by VAR officials when they watch incidents over and over are mindboggling.
I'd be happy to go to back to just having goal line technology and offsides that only look for a gap between the attacker & defender (ie not which toenail is ahead)

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
I personally never wanted it, but my big reason was because of the flow of the game and that it would take away the raw emotion of the moment.

What I didn't expect was the absolute clusterfuck it has become.

I try not to prattle on about decisions, because we've had our fair share this season (Bournemouth at home anyone?) but that yesterday has to be looked at. I cannot fathom, in any way shape or form, how they've not given that yesterday with the world watching? What element of doubt was there?

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
The handball law at the moment is a complete shambles and like many rules there will always be a grey middle area (especially when it comes to natural and unnatural positions of the arm). We've been on the wrong side of some calls recently, but got away with some earlier in the season. And if the bias is so obvious for the big sides how did Brighton get a 99th minute handball decision against Manchester United midweek which saw them grab a winner?

I thought the foul on the goalie was very soft last night, but the rule is pretty much you touch the goalie then it's a foul. Last season our opener against Liverpool was allowed to stand despite more interference on the goalie.

The”big six” might say we only get all our tv income because of them. They might even be right. If so they get all sorts of favouritism that makes the competition biased. This bias is for the benefit of those teams and their world wide snow flakey tv audience. Its like Roman Gladiators, they need the favourite to win after a good tussle.

worse than yesterday's, and the Liverpool one. Against one of the so-called big clubs. Very short memories around.

Compare the reaction to Thiago’s double handball. Double standards by Gallagher and the media. This is why officials are scared of making decisions against the big six.

Chelsea got the win with their dodgy decisions at the bridge Stewie….you’ve also got to look at who’s challenging for things when some of these decisions are made….

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
Yeah stewie but currently we're a bigger club than Chelsea so the big club bias is preserved.

It’s match fixing
For some reason in this country players can be investigated for it but not officials

There was another incident yesterday when the ManU player had his back to the play and a shot hit his outstretched hand. Antonio was deemed to have handled the ball and a penalty given this one didn't even merit a replay.

Mbuemo from Brentford was deemed to be offside against Liverpool after running from the halfway line. They didn't replay it on MOTD but it looked very very iffy. I thought he was in his own half, but there was no forensic examination like there would have been had it been the other way for Saint Liverpool.

I thought we would get a better deal when Mike Dean retired but they've put the twat in the VAR with an overseeing role

Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
It is not 'incompetence'.
If it was incompetence the errors would be more random.
The ref & VAR errors are not random.

VAR is being utilised to ensure that the European Super League rebels get as much European football as possible.

Saw an interview the NBA ref Tim Donaghy gave some years ago.
Donaghy was imprisoned for match fixing for betting purposes.
He also said that the NBA fixed games in the play-offs to extend play-off series.
You'd have to be very naive to think the same thing doesn't happen in the Premier League.

The Premier League knows that Man Utd, Liverpool, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea & Spurs are very popular in worldwide markets & they need those sides doing well to enhance interest in a Premier League season.

There are some examples where it’s impossible to not give a decision so as not to completely blow the cover. One of those being the Brighton decision in the week. Had they not given that as handball, they would basically be admitting to cheating as there is not a single argument for it not being handball.

stewie griffin 12:42 Mon May 8
Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
we've had 8 penalties awarded to us this season. Only Man City have had more which, given the way they play, isn't really surprising.
Man Utd 2, Chelsea 3, Liverpool 4. Arsenal 4, Spurs 5. They're not doing a very good job of gifting decisions to these teams. Can't even get that right, evidently.

Mad Dog 12:48 Mon May 8
Re: VAR corrupt or just scared officials ?
Griffin. Yes we got away with one against Chelsea. But let's now consider the reverse fixture where we had a goal disallowed for Bowen "almost murdering" kepa
